On 13 November, the Canada EU Trade and Investment Association (CEUTIA) proudly organised the first episode of the new CETA Series on behalf of the Canadian Mission to the European Union.
The theme of the event was Canada-EU labour and skills mobility with a focus on the CETA provisions that facilitate the movement of persons, as well as the frameworks for mutual recognition of professional qualifications.
The event also explored the skills gap in critical sectors including the hydrogen sector and how Canada and the EU were working to bridge this gap through CETA and other initiatives.
The event featured an excellent panel discussion from both sides of the Atlantic with insights from government to industry to civil society; namely: Andres Garcia Bermudez, Senior Expert, European Commission, DG Trade; Andreia Ghimis, Immigration Manager, Fragomen; Pascal Kerneis, Managing Director, European Services Forum, Ivette Vera-Perez, President & CEO, the Canadian Hydrogen Association; and Valerie Walker, Chief Executive Officer, The Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER). The panel was moderated by Karen Kennedy, Commercial & Economic Counsellor and Senior Trade Commissioner, Canadian Mission to the European Union.
Mr. Javier Moreno Sánchez, Member of the European Parliament, President of the Delegation for relations with Canada and Permanent Rapporteur of the Canada Monitoring Group in the INTA Committee of the European Parliament started the event with some opening remarks.
